| Valley witnesses roller skating activity | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 7: It was after a long time that young children in valley witnessed activities in the once most medal winning game of roller skating in Jammu and Kashmir. The activity, a coaching camp, was organised by the Shaheen Sports Syndicate aiming at promoting skating in Kashmir province. The camp was organised at Children's Park, near LD Hospital, here. Around 25 children participated in the said coaching camp which culminated yesterday after it started on May 16. After three weeks of basic training, most of the children seemed trained enough to perform different stunts which mesmerized the spectators, mostly the parents, who had gathered around the rink. On the occasion, talking to SAN, a number of children shared their experience during the coaching camp and also expressed their feelings after moving around on wheels. Parents too were delighted to witness their wards balancing and racing on skates. Meanwhile, the organizers of this 21-day camp have also planned yet another camp on similar lines in near future so as to keep the trainees intact. "The response was not that good last year, but this time the number of trainees was beyond our expectations. Such a good turn up of young trainees really encourages us in our endeavor to promote the game of skating in valley," said general secretary of the Shaheen Sports Syndicate, Mohammad Farooq Mattoo. The children were trained during the camp by Firdous Ahamd Khan, who himself is a senior skater of the state.
