| Inter-school handball, hockey, basketball events begin | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 7: Annual inter-school (district level) competitions of Jammu district in four events of hockey, handball, basketball and softball started today at different venues here under the banner of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS). "During the first two days of the four-day competition, the events in boys under-14 and under-17 year age groups shall take place, followed by the girls matches, again in two age groups," giving information, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jammu, Jai Raj said. BASKETBALL: The basketball tournament which went underway today at Mini Stadium, Parade here, St Peters School Karan Bagh and St Peters School B C Road won their respective matches to move ahead in under-17 year category. The Results: St. Peters BC Road bt MIET 26-08; St. Peters Karan Bagh bt SOS School 47-04; MIET bt Delhi Public School (DPS) 22-08. Similarly, in under-14 boys' event, MIER emerged winner outplaying St Peters Karan Bagh 17-09. Today's matches were officiated by Rajinder Magotra, Rattan Lal, Vishal Bharti, Veneet and Rajesh Vandre. HOCKEY: In hockey competition, which started at KK Hakhu Stadium today, Guru Har Krishan Public School defeated Government High School Simbal Camp by a solitary goal in under-14 age group. Whereas in under-17 boys group, SOS School registered a 2-0 win over Government Higher Secondary School Gole Gujral. Hockey matches were officiated by Amarjeet Singh, Harvinder Singh, Kulbir Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Mandeep Singh and Maveen Akhter.
