| JPPF, JCUM accuse Centre of different yardsticks for two regions | | Local VC for JCU | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 7: On the arrival of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in Valley during his two-day-long visit to Jammu and Kashmir, the demand of local Vice Chancellor for Jammu Central University (JCU) has gained momentum here with various organisations accusing the Centre of adopting different yardsticks for two regions. Jammu Province Peoples Forum (JPPF), an amalgam of several social and political outfits, warned the Union government of applying different yardsticks for two regions. Talking to media persons here, Judge (retd) Paviter Singh, convenor of the forum said, "It is a very sad affair that all the time people of Jammu region have to fight for their rights to get due justice. From last many months, people of Jammu along with various political and social groups have been demanding that a son of soil be the first Vice Chancellor of upcoming Jammu Central University but Centre has continued to adopt silence attitude over the issue." The forum chief alleged, "There were certain reports that Centre has been considered, Amitabh Mattoo as prospective candidate for the post of Vice Chancellor Central University Jammu but Mattoo has all along advocated solutions to the 'Kashmir problem' which could be termed as pro-autonomy. As for as the administration of Mattoo is concerned, he encouraged sycophancy and promoted those who blindly followed his orders and remained his yes-men and courtiers." "There is no dearth of talent in Jammu province. People having roots in Jammu region and vast academic and administrative experience are available and they should be appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of JCU," he said. He appealed to the Central Government particularly, Pratibha Dev Singh Patil, President, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister and Kapil Sibal, Union HRD Minister to appoint a good academician who belongs to Jammu region as the Vice- Chancellor of Jammu Central University at the earliest. Similarly, Jammu Central University Morcha, a conglomerate of several social and political groups, expressed its concern over "inordinate delay" in the appointment of Dogra Vice Chancellor of Jammu Central University and said, "It is regrettable that the Prime Minister has no time to listen Jammuites' demand of local VC for Central University Jammu." "It is strange that while the Prime Minister has the time to meet the separatists and those attacking the army, challenging the unity, integrity and sovereignty of Indian State, he has no time for people of Jammu province, who has been suffering from an extreme form of discrimination at the hands of Kashmiri rulers," Rajinder Jamwal, president PRM and member JCUM told reporters here. The leader asserted, "It is time for Prime Minister to deal with Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh separately so that the problems of the people of these different regions are surmounted to their satisfaction." He warned authorities that any delay in appointing local Vice Chancellor of Central University Jammu would force the people of Jammu province to resort to agitational path.
