| Narainan sabotaged Kashmir resolution in 2007: Mirwaiz | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 7: Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has accused former National Security Advisor, RK Narainan of sabotaging Kashmir resolution in 2007. In an interview with e New Delhi based newspaper, Mirwaiz said the Islamabad, New Delhi and Hurriyat Conference had reached an understanding but` Narainan played a typical hawk' and sabotaged the move. Mirwaiz's Hurriyat, it may be mentioned, was engaged in a `triangular' dialogue with Islamabad and New Delhi. The dialogue was initiated in 2004 and continued for three years. "Since we were involved in the dialogue process, we know who played what role", he said. The parties engaged in the dialogue had agreed to go ahead with General Parvez Musharraf's four-point-formula. "However, Narainan said it was very difficult for New Delhi to trust General Musharraf", Mirwaiz said. General Musharraf came out with his formula in 2006. Making the LoC irrelevant, withdrawal of troops from both parts of Jammu Kashmir, joint control of divided Kashmir and self rule were the four points that all the parties to the dispute had almost accepted. "But for Narainan, the agreement could not be reached", Mirwaiz disclosed. The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh had agreed to make the LoC irrelevant. However, he had refused to redraw the boundaries. Earlier Pakistan former foreign minister, Khurshid Kasoori also made a similar disclosure. He said Kashmir dispute was almost settled during Parvez Musharraf's regime. All players including National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had been taken onboard by New Delhi as well as by Islamabad. Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani was the only person to oppose the formula tooth and nail. The Kashmir civil society also held a debate to discuss the General's formula. Surprisingly most of the speakers rejected it. The civil society also published a pamphlet highlighting the dangers of accepting the formula. Mirwaiz has made the disclosure at a time when the Prime Minister is in Kashmir and has expressed willingness to resume dialogue with the Hurriyat Conference. Mirwaiz's statement, therefore, has evoked interest from various quarters. Is Mirwaiz's statement a message to the Prime Minister to keep hawks like RK Narainan out of the dialogue process in future?
