| RSS also for imposition of ‘Jazia’ on pilgrims | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 7: Who says that the so-called pro-Hindu RSS is not opposed to the imposition of Jazia by Governor N.N. Vohra and the State Government on the Amarnath Yatris and free Langars? Those who are saying so are ignorant about the antics of "Hindu" organization. The RSS had tried its level best to sabotage the 2008 Shri Amarnath Land Movement in Jammu. It is doing the same now to sabotage the movement in Jammu against the decision of Governor Narinder Nath Vohra and the State Government to impose "Jazia" on everything related to the annual Holy Amarnath Yatra with a view to discouraging Yatris, appeasing religious bigots in Kashmir and fleecing the Shri Amarnath devotees. That the RSS is all for the imposition of all kinds of taxes on the Yatris and on those who would set up free Langars en-route the Holy Cave is not a motivated charge. The RSS has actually endorsed the irrational, communal and unjustifiable decision of the concerned authorities in a meeting with Governor NN Vohra. President of J&K unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which is an outfit of the RSS, has admitted during the press conference he organized on Sunday (June 6) in Jammu. "As far as charging of sanitation charges for establishing free Langars are concerned, the Governor has assured us for reviewing the decision from next year. We have been assured (by the Governor) that the sanitation fee would be converted into security fee which would be refundable from next year", VHP president told reporters. What he said clinches the whole issue and proves that the authorities and the RSS are working in unison to outrage the religious sentiments of the Hindus across India. This is one side of the story that indicates the extent to which the RSS can go to hurt the religious sensitivities of the Hindus and appease fanatics and intolerant and regressive forces in the state. The other side of the story is even more intriguing and disturbing. For example, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), which is the youth wing of the BJP, a political organ of the RSS, has been demanding abolition of what it called "Jazia on the Amarnath pilgrims". So much so that the BJYM has submitted a memorandum to the Governor through the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, asking the Raj Bhawan to abolish forthwith all taxes imposed on the Amarnath Yatra-related activities or get prepared to face consequences. Not only the BJYM, but also two of the BJP legislators have organized an impressive rally against the decision of the authorities and warned them that any failure on their part to respect the Hindu sentiment would force the people to create in Jammu province the 2008-like situation. The contradictory stand taken by the various RSS-affiliated outfits like the VHP, the BJYM and the BJP legislators is a deliberate move aimed at achieving two goals - helping the authorities in implementing its anti-secular and anti-democratic decisions and creating an impression that its political outfit BJP is with those opposing the official decision. It cannot play two dubious games at the same times. It is treading a dangerous path. Either the RSS should ask the BJP not to rake up the Amarnath issue or it should direct VHP to join hands with the BJP and oppose the official decision. If RSS thinks that the people of Jammu are not understanding the implications of its dubious game-plan, then it is living in a fool's paradise.
