| Mobiles services remain disrupted today | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 7: Mobile services across Kashmir valley were suspended in view of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's two-day visit to the state with service providers citing security concerns as the reason. Almost all the mobile service providers including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Bharti Airtell, Aircell and Vodafone blocked the cellular service at around 11:30 am today, 15 minutes prior to the arrival of the prime minister here, official sources said. The non availability of mobile services added to the misery of residents as restrictions like curfew and strike had closed the city. The worst affected were tourists and those associated with the media. Journalists performing their professional duties were unable to remain in touch with their respective organizations. Many tourists complained that they cannot contact their families as STD booths in the city too were closed due to restrictions and strike. "We blocked the service at 11:30 am minutes before the arrival of prime minister here. The jam would continue till the PM leaves," quoted General Manager BSNL, Mahesh Shukla as saying. "In addition to communication, mobile phones can be used as devices to trigger explosions also", he said.
