| Rich tributes paid to Student martyrs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | OCT 17 Various student organizations paid rich tributes to the four student martyrs, who were brutally killed by the police on Oct 1966 while leading a students movement for the opening of a University, professional colleges in Jammu and granting job status to agriculture graduates at par with Engineers and Doctors. In the morning, Prof. Bhim Singh accompanied by Panthers MLA, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Gen Secretary Anita Thakur, Ashok Mahajan, and PSU University President and several PSU activists paid the floral tributes to the martyrs. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Bhim Singh appealed the students on the Martyrs Day to pledge to fight against injustice and discrimination at all levels and strengthen secular bonds among the students the PSU launched a literacy campaign. On the occasion, the scholars of the Jammu University led by Vikas Sharma and Anuradha Goswami; Vice-President JURSEA paid floral tributes to the student martyrs. Meena Handa, sister of one of the martyrs Gulshan Handa also accompanied the group of students to the “Shahidi Sthal”. Two-minute silence was also observed in the respect of the martyrs. Jammu State Students Morcha (JSSM), National Conference Students Union (NCSU), National Students Union of India (NSUI) were together seen on the single platform on this occasion, which symbolized the student’s unity irrespective of their affiliations. Speaking on the occasion, Vikas said that students of Jammu are united despite of several ideologies as, they are fighting for the single cause.
