| 40 hurt as minibus overturns near Shahadra Sharief | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 10: At least 40 persons were injured, 25 of them seriously, when an overloaded minibus overturned near Shahadra Sharief here and fell into a field. Overloading was stated to be the reason behind the incident. The minibus (4399/JK11), having a seating capacity of 26, was crammed with 60 persons, official sources said. Sources said the minibus rolled off the road at Dak Bungalow morh near Shahadra Sharief and landed in the field, resulting in injuries to at least 40 persons. Soon after the incident, locals rescued the injured and shifted them to the Rajouri district hospital in their own vehicles. By the time, hospital ambulances or police help arrived, the injured had already been shifted to hospital, the sources added. The condition of 25 of the injured was said to be critical by the doctors attending on them. Three of them were referred to the GMC hospital, Jammu. There was a strong resentment among the locals against traffic police, which had failed to check overloading in passenger vehicles. People alleged that traffic police took "hafta" from minibus operators for allowing them to carry extra commuters in their vehicles. Mohammad Sadeeq Khan, a local leader, alleged that two ambulances provided by the health department for patients of Thanamandi area were being used by the officials for their household works. Other people alleged athat when they approached the authorities, there was no driver available in the hospital to ply ambulances.
