| J-K to carry survey to enlist left out victims of militancy | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 10: Jammu and Kashmir government plans to carry out a survey to identify widows and orphans, including the family members of militants, left out during past two decades of militancy in the state to provide them relief. The modalities for carrying out the survey were discussed today at a meeting with social welfare minister Sakina Itoo in the chair so that an authenticated and fully verified figures of such victims were made available. Itoo, addressing the meeting, sought cooperation from the police in identification and verification process of militancy related victims. She said government is seriously pursuing the policy to heal the wounds of orphans, widows and innocent victims of militancy including family members of militants. "We are aware of their sufferings and feel their pain and pledge to take steps for their dignified rehabilitation", Itoo said. She directed District Social Welfare officers to coordinate with the respective police agencies as well as the District Magistrates while formulating the list of militancy related victims in their areas of jurisdiction and also to speed up the disposal of pending cases. Itoo said social welfare department after identifying 4662 civilian widows and 1918 widows of militants has been able to provide help to 3256 widows so far.
