| Govt suspends SO Jammu, DYSS officer to conduct inquiry | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 10: The Secretary to Government, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, BA Runyal has ordered suspension of Sports Officer (Jammu) of State Sports Council, Rajan Sharma.
However, the order bearing No. 98-Edu (Tech), issued yesterday had no mention about the causes that led the government to take action against a senior officer of the autonomous sports body in the state.
The same order further mentioned the appointment of Deputy Director Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) (Central), Gulshan Ara as enquiry officer, who has been asked to submit the report within 15 days.
A copy of the order has also been issued to Director General DYSS, who also holds the charge of Secretary State Sports Council, S A Laharwal asking latter to handover charge of Rajan Sharma to a senior most officer of the Sports Council. Meanwhile, according to the reliable sources, Ravi Singh, who took over as Manager MA Stadium Jammu today only, after his transfer as district manager (Rajouri-Poonch), shall most probably be given the charge.
When contacted Secretary to Government, Technical Education and YSS, BA Runyal said,"I don't deal with sports but had been asked to issue this order by the Ministry. I personally don't know Rajan Sharma, but a file containing some newspaper cuttings, alleging mishabaviour by this officer with a female subordinate, was forwarded to me. Since, it was a matter pertaining to office, I kept the file for over two weeks but could not hold for long and had to issue the order as the pressure mounts,"
"I have appointed a senior officer to conduct the inquiry and if nothing found against the said officer, he will be reinstated to his old position," he mentioned.
However, it has been reliably learnt that some coaches, against whom Rajan Sharma took action for remaining absent from duty without intimating his office, have plotted the action.
Unwanted action
What the government has done was something unwanted. Rajan Sharma, who is known for integrity and loyalty towards his organization, is a well decorated sportsperson. Besides an international boxing referee, he has produced a number of national medalist from the state as a coach. So, before issuing such defaming orders, the government must look into the ground realities. Such actions only demoralize different ranks of the Sports Council are strict towards their staff.
