| Departmental inquiry ordered | | SFC lands into trouble with purchase of non-compatible load carriers | | Govind Chouhan EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | OCT 16 State Forest Corporation (SFC) has landed itself into the controversy with the purchase of non-compatible load carrier vehicles. The purchase made by the purchase committee is being thoroughly scrutinized by a committee constituted for the purpose and the further purchases have been put on hold till the outcome of the commission’s findings. According to reports, SFC was having the fleet of 160 load carriers to carry out transporting timber. The working of SFC is wholly dependent upon these load carriers as, the major part of its job includes transportation of timber from transit depots to the Forest Depots within the state. But, after court’s order banning plying of all the vehicles of 15 year old, the fleet strength has been reduced to150 carriers. To fill this gap, corporation purchased 20-load carrier vehicles. Out of these 20 vehicles, 10 were dispatched to Srinagar and remaining vehicles retained for use in Jammu. The vehicles that were send to Srinagar proved a complete failure on the hilly terrains of the valley. As, after their use it was declared that these vehicles were not fit for operation in the state like ours due to its mountainous terrain, which causes great difficulty to its drivers. Even drivers were noticed out to be scared of using these vehicles. They also termed these load carriers as less fuel efficient as compared to the other ones. Lot of hue and cry was also made over the purchase of load carriers as it was also reported previously that these load carrier were not suitable for the terrains of J&K state. Keeping in view the outcry on the purchase of the said vehicles, corporation has announced an enquiry by a departmental committee over the purchases. Some of the members of the purchase committee are expected to be in the inquiry committee’s net as; they have allegedly taken their commission for the purchase of the said vehicle. Ten other (TC) vehicle load carriers, which were also lying useless, are also being subjected to the commission’s enquiry. The further orders for the purchase of vehicles have been put on halt till the outcome of the commission’s report. According to reliable sources, corporation has suffered a huge monetary loss due to this purchase as; all the purchased vehicles are lying idle. It is to mention here that the similar kind of purchase was made by Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC), which resulted into heavy losses to the corporation. Now, SFC is also facing a similar kind of situation and let’s see how it will react to the situation now.
