| 'Use water judiciously, otherwise face dry spell', Slathia | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 12: Use water judiciously Minister for Industries and Commerce, Surjit Singh Slathia asked the people while dedicating two tube wells, one 5000 gallon per day capacity tube at Vijaypur, coming up at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh and another 6000 gallon per day capacity tube well at Kotli Matkalian, coming up at a cost of Rs. 99.78 lakh in Samba district. Addressing large gatherings at Vijaypur and Kotli Matkalian He said that coalition Government headed by Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah was committed to prove adequate drinking water facilities in the rural as well as Kandi areas of the State. He said that for this purpose, the Government has provided liberal funding for construction of deep drill tube wells, pump sets and hand pumps. He said that due to global warming and continuous dry spell in the country, the water level is decreasing day-by-day. He said that 'it is the duty of every citizen not to waste water unnecessarily adding that in the present scenario the drinking water is precious for all. He said that coalition Government has formulated a comprehensive plan for providing sufficient drinking water facilities in the peripheral areas of the State. Responding to the local demands, Slathia asked the PHe department to install 18 water posts in the internal areas of the village so that the villagers do not face any inconvenience during summer season. He asked to lay drinking water supply pipes in the uncovered areas of Kotli Matkalian. Regarding construction of lanes and drains of Kotli Matkalian, he asked the concerned department to prepare estimates for construction of dilapidated condition of lanes and drains and compound wall at Dati Devsathan and submit the same for funding so that the works could be started. For construction of irrigation tube well at Kotli Matkalian, the Minister said that there is no scarcity of funds, asked locals to donate land so that the construction work could be started.
