| Let tourism flourishes in Jammu like Valley; BJP suggests government | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 12: BJP State General Secretary Satish Sharma reacting against charges leveled by people of Ramkote, Billawar and Bani, who expressed deep concern over the biased attitude of government towards development of tourist spots in different parts of Jammu province. Sharma said that it is indeed unfortunate that successive governments have been mostly headed by NC or shared by PDP-Congress and NC-Congress, have always given step-motherly treatment to Jammu province as far as development of tourist destinations is concerned. He said if Kashmir valley has Gulmarg, Pahalgam or other such spots, there are numerous such spots in Jammu region including Bani, Sarthal, Machhaidi, Dhar Manpur, Ramkote, Mangloor and Gurah Kalyan in Basohli and Billawar besides dozens of such places in Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Doda, Rajouri and Poonch, which in no way lack natural beauty embedded with mountains, lakes, green lands and what not. He said the government has always neglected these areas and preferred Kashmir only. Sharma also criticized present Congress-led UPA for its Kashmir centric approach in matters related to development of spots linked with tourist attractions. He said the extent of discrimination even by the Central government can be well judged from the fact that it allocated more than Rs 700 crores for Dal and Wullar lakes besides 2200 crores for Jhelum, just a meager sum of Rs 3 crores has been allocated for Mansar and Surinsar lakes. Holding Congress responsible for such discrimination with Jammu, Sharma said that NC and PDP having their core constituency in Valley have been concentrating on Kashmir, while Congress which is heading UPA and sharing power with NC in the state has never uttered a single word over this discrimination.
