| Drive against use of polythene bags | | | Early Times Report
KaTHUA, June12: In a drive to stop use of polythene bags, Kathua Municipal Council seized a huge quantity of plastic bags (Polythene bags) worth more than Rs.50, 000. An Alto car bearing number JKO8 9022 belonging to Rakesh Kumar son of Faquir Chand of ward number 7 Kathua was intercepted by the staff of Kathua Municipal Council at Hatli Morh during a naka in the wee hours and the stuff was recovered from it.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of EO Harbans Singh assisted by his entire staff that included RO Pritam, Sanitary Inspector P.R Sangra, Tax Inspector Rajinder Kumar and Food Inspector Vikram Singh.
It has been found that after the imposition of a ban on the use and trading of polythene bags, Kathua town has become the hub of clandestine trading of this banned stuff.
The ban has been imposed owing to it being a source of serious health hazard besides causing pollution and ecological degradation. The EO, Harbans Singh expressed surprise that in spite of a ban the use of polythene bags was on increase causing serious damage to the environment and health of both animals and human beings. He said the campaign to remove the traces of this dangerous stuff from the markets and homes will be intensified and the public will be secured against the health hazard.
