| Tarigami for holding Panchyat elections on non party lines | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Shopian, June 12: State Secretray CPI (M), Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, demanded holding of Panchayat -Local Body elections in state on non-party lines, to pave the way for people's participation in the development and planning process at grass-root levels. He also demanded removing of loop-holes in the Panchayat Raj Act by introducing 73rd and 74th amendment in the existing Act. While addressing a public rally at Harman in Shopian district, Tarigami said that elections for Panchayat's are all more necessary to remove apprehensions among people that huge sum of amount meant for development projects was being properly utilized. Tarigami said that people have expectations with government, but situation with regard to supply of power, condition of roads, availability of ration, kerosene, LPG, drinking water and Medicare facilities in the rural areas has been pathetic, thus, shattering common man's hope in the present dispensation. He suggested for Citizen- Centric approach of governance to deliver essential public services effectively. While emphasizing on administrative reforms for transparent and good governance, which is receptive and responsive to the needs of the people, the State Secretary CPI (M) demanded effective measures to increase responsiveness, accountability and transparency of administration, monitoring of development programmes, strengthening of RTI, reducing corruption and strict adherence of zero tolerance for Human Rights violations. Tarigami has demanded probe in the incident that took place in Rajouri kadal yesterday, in which one youth was killed. While expressing deep shock over the incident, he demanded stern action against the erring officials. He said that such incidents were likely to create panic among the common masses resulting in further alienation which will prove disastrous.
