| Anti-Child Labour Day observed | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 12: In connection with observing World Day against Child Labour, Damodhar Stri Udyog Sanstha, a non government organization organized an awareness drive and lecture at its centre on Saturday. The purpose was to educate parents and children on the need of exercising their fundamental right to elementary education. A comprehensive lecture bringing awareness to the parents about the Right to elementary education also highlighted the need to impart education to the0 children instead of forcibly putting them to manual labor. The lecture was organized here at PAHL Centre on the initiative of Damodhar Udyog Sanstha, 140 underprivileged children belonging to the labour class and living in slum areas have been admitted in the school, On the occasion students took a pledge that they would not work before attuning the age of 18 years and participate in the awareness drive to motivate working children to join study groups and complete their elementary education. The awareness lecture delivered by was also attended by several local residents, PAHL students, their parents and family members. The lecture delivered by Onkar Nah Chandra, Chairman of the Damodhar Satri Udyog Sanstha, highlighted the need to educate the children below 14 years of age. Mr Chandra made an attempt to convince the parents of the underprivileged children that they should not force their children to join them in their hard manual work. He informed them that the Union Government had introduced Right to Elementary Education to stop the menace of child labour. Chandra disclosed that in a random survey conducted by the Damodhar Satri Udyog Sanstha, it was found that several government servants in the State of Jammu and Kashmir had employed minor children as domestic help and did not allow them to complete their elementary education. He urged the state government authorities to conduct a random survey and prevent minor children from falling into the trap of government employees who force them to work as domestic help. Arti Jatwar and Sukanya Chib also addressed the audience and advised parents of the underprivileged children to motivate their children not to discontinue their study at least up to class 10.
