CHAMAN KAUL
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June12: Good news for urban poor, living in slum like areas homeless. It is only few months away when every family of urban poor will have their own house to live in. According to official survey nearly 608 families would be accommodated in the colony being developed at Sunjwa. About 811 people will get financial support to construct houses under the guidelines of centrally sponsored scheme INSITU.
"Construction of one room quarters is in progress. Those living in slum like areas homeless are entitled for the scheme, but it is purely a scheme for urban poor and not like that housing scheme. Every person having no own place to live and cannot afford to have one as per the income are entitled" said Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Mubarak Singh. He said 36 people have been identified who will be housed in Leprosy Colony, Bhagwati Nagar with in a period of month. "Construction is almost complete, finishing touch and formalities are to be completed, the colony will be dedicated to these 36 people" Singh informed.
It is pertinent to mention that during the year 2006-07, the then Chief Minister strived hard to get accommodated the homeless people in state. Result of which centre government sanctioned Rs. 35 crores, Rs. 14 crores and Rs 8 crores respectively time to time for various colonies under construction in Jammu as well as in Srinagar.
It is important to mention that those living in slums like areas in Narwal, Channi, Beli Charana and other places across the city are not state subjects are not entitled to the scheme. Also those who migrate from nearby districts on behalf of services, jobs and other reasons are not also entitled to the scheme. But who so ever having meager income and putting up in slum like areas with owning a house is entitled. Those who had not been identified through official survey and are subjected to get entitled for the scheme should apply to the concerned authority. It is in deed a step towards progress, people should make it happen without raising any hurdles in the name of politics and land mafia.
