| RSS-Controlled SAYSS has ditched everyone in Jammu 2008 AGITATION-III | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 12: It was a landmark agreement, notwithstanding the fact that the SAYSS, the RSS and the BJP dropped the demanding regarding the recall of Governor N N Vohra, who had outraged the sentiments of the Hindus across the world by asking the State Government to take over that piece of land at Baltal it had diverted to the Shrine Board on a temporary basis to be used during the Yatra period. The SAYSS, the RSS and the BJP dropped this basic demand much to the chagrin of the people of Jammu province, as also much against the wishes of the constituents of the SAYSS, including the Bar Association Jammu, the Shiv Sena and the Jammu State Morcha (Secular). Interestingly, the Jammu-based Congress leaders, with a couple of exceptions, stuck to the demand that Governor N N Vohra had to be recalled in order to restore the people's confidence. Did the SAYSS do anything concrete to make the authorities implement this historic agreement in letter and spirit or in full? The answer is both yes and no. Yes, because the SAYSS ensured the transfer of the Baltal land to the Shrine Board, free of cost. The re-allotment of the Baltal land to the Shrine Board was the basic demand of the people of Jammu and the authorities conceded this demand, of course, under mounting pressure. The SAYSS also succeeded in making the authorities to grant ex-gratia relief in favour of the "next of the kin of the deceased and in favour of permanently disabled and the injured in all cases covered under the existing rules of the State Government." However, it is a fact that the SAYSS has utterly failed to obtain justice for all those got killed and injured during the agitation period. The agreement had provided for "compensation to the families of the deceased and to the injured." But nothing concrete has been done in this regard in certain cases. As for other demands, including "appropriate packages of financial assistance to compensate losses of the transport sector, trade and industry, horticulture sector, hoteliers and tourist operators", the SAYSS did nothing whatever to force the authorities to concede this very genuine demands of the people engaged in various professions. In fact, the SAYSS went in hibernation after the conclusion of the truce over the land. Of course, on a couple of occasions, the SAYSS did make statements in this regard and that's all. It has left everyone in the lurch. Similarly, the SAYSS failed to ensure the withdrawal of criminal cases against various persons filed during the period of agitation. Cases are still pending against several persons. But the SAYSS has now nothing to do with them. The fact is that the SAYSS has now become defunct for all practical purposes. If at all it exists, it exists only in name. It is now controlled by those who now control another RSS-sponsored Shri Amarnath Yatra Nayas, an outfit that has endorsed the view point of the State Governor on the imposition of what people call "Jazia" on the free Langars. The conclusion is that the RSS-controlled and the RSS-founded SAYSS has ditched everyone in Jammu. That was the reason the RSS-BJP candidates suffered humiliating defeat at the hands of the Congress in the 2009 general elections. Had the SAYSS, the RSS and the BJP ensured the implementation of the agreement, their candidates would have won the election hands down. There are reasons to believe that all the RSS-BJP candidates would bite dust in the next elections when held. (Concluded)
