| Sports Council must tighten noose against defunct associations | | | Early Times October 17 Nearly fifty sports associations in different disciplines are active in the state for the upliftment of sports but that doesn’t make any difference as nothing significant has been done so far in this direction. All these associations are associated with the J&K State Sports Council the nodal agency in the state providing funds to these associations for timely conduct of the sports tournaments at state, district and local levels. But one question often raised doubts over the credibility of the sport council is that How it allows those sports associations in to conduct tournaments in the stadium especially indoor events which are not affiliated with it? Let us take the example of Badminton Hall which is a permanent venue for these defunct associations to conduct tournaments thereby disturbing the practice of shuttlers who are already short of time due to their hectic study schedule. Infact, these associations are cheating the innocent players of the state for their selfish interests just by announcing the formation the association in order to earn huge grants for the sake of conducting tournaments. Such non affiliated associations should be sacked by the sports council with immediate effect. Keeping this in mind, it is imperative that State Sports Council must take some stern measures against these so called associations by not allowing them the stadium premises for conducting tournaments. Rather it should concentrate on the improvement of the existing infrastructure for the betterment of standard of sports in the state. Krishan Lal Sharma Sports Officer State Sports Council while speaking to “Early Times” on the issue said, “ The sports council have 50-52 affiliated sports associations to which we provide the necessary funds for the timely conduct of the tournaments. Moreover, all these associations have affiliation with the Games Federation Of India. As far as the question of defunct associations is concerned we don’t have much information about but we do provide them the stadium facility on rent to conduct their events so that the income generated from the conduct of the event would be utilized for development of the stadium.” he replied. Not only that, the association affiliated with the sports council are also not working properly. There is an absolute failure on their part to not even conduct a local level tournament for a pretty long time for which they have already received the funds from the council. Time now have come for sports council to get their act together to tighten the noose not only against defunct associations and should giving funds to those associations who are working properly. In other words, the council should keep a strict vigil on all those associations to ensure that no association whether it is affiliated or non affiliated would dare to kidding with the future of state players and that is where the actual responsibility of State Sports Council lies.
