| TOP COPS GET READY FOR EVENT FREE INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS | | | Jammu, July 25 : With an eye on the event free Independence Day celebrations senior officials of the Jammu and Kashmir police today met here to review security scenario in the region in the run up to the August 15 celebrations.
The meeting was attended by top rung of the police authorities in Jammu and discussed ways to ensure incident free Independence day programme.
“The purpose of today’s meeting was to review the security situation and to analyse intelligence inputs to prepare police personnel in advance to thwart attempts of militants to spread terror in the area” a senior police officer said after the meeting here on Tuesday.
According to sources, intelligence inputs collected by field intelligence units of various agencies have hinted at the possibility of militants strike ahead of Independence day programme in the region and efforts are afoot to prepare state police to handle the situation in case of militant attack.
Sources said, during the meeting various other issues such as setting up of additional nakas on the outskirts and in the walled city, area domination, checking of inter state and inter district bus service, round the clock patrolling in sensitive places, strengthening of existing nakas at vantage points, tight vigil on movement of suspected people especially at crowded places was discussed.
During the meeting, discussion was also held on intensifying patrolling in the Niki tawi area to check movement of anti-national elements and dumping of explosives.
Senior officials gave instructions to their junior officers to ensure that police parties in their jurisdiction don’t lower their guard during peak hours. During the meeting the details about deployment of police personnel were also discussed.
