JJSF demands independent inquiry into BGSBU incident
6/14/2010 12:56:49 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 13: Joint Students' Federation (JJSF) has condemned police action against students of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshsh University (BGSBU) Rajouri. In a press conference held here today, JJSF said that police action was totally unjustified.
JJSF President Pratap Singh said that the students of this university had been demonstrating for some days in support of their genuine demands such as the issue of supplementary exams, re-valuation and grace marks. For last five days protesting students are on hunger strike and authorities were intimidating them by various methods. The students were asked to vacate the hostel within 24 hours, and the hotel mess had been closed down since last day. University authorities mislead the students by asserting that there demands had been met but some miscreants were creating a situation.
Pratap Singh said that in the morning the VC ordered picking up the agitating students instead of engaging them in a dialogue and resolution of the stalemate.
The situation worsened with this and the police made a baton charge. Some students among whom there were girls also were seriously hurt by tear gas shells
JJSF wanted to know why the V.C permitted police personnel to enter the university campus. Why the district authorities did not control the situation when they knew trouble was brewing at the university campus, he asked.
JJSF thanked Andolan Samiti District Rajouri for extending help to the injured students. It also thanked Jammu Provincial People Forum (JPPF) for their support to the student community. JJSF demanded that Chief Minister order an independent inquiry into the incident. It demanded compensation for the injured students and acceptance of the demand of the students.
Present at the press conference were were Rohit Wali , Sahil Chodhary, Mohit Sharma, Sumit Gupta, Koushal, Ankit Gupta, Nitin Gupta, Sanjay Sharma and others.
