| "Suicide attack was planned on PM's convoy in Sgr" | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 13: A suicide attack was planned by the pan-Islamic Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit on prime minister Manmohan Singh's convoy during his visit to Srinagar last week. Intelligence agencies came across this vital information after they intercepted a wireless conversation between Kashmir-based LeT commander Abdullah Uni and the outfit's PoK-based coordinator Abu Hurreira, according to a senior police officer. The intercept was made two days before Singh's visit to Kashmir on June 7, the officer added. Two days before Singh flew in on an overnight visit on June 7 intercepts of wireless conversations between the two militant commanders by army had sent alarm bells ringing both in Delhi and Srinagar so much so that suggestions were made for the visit to be postponed, he said. The officer said the two LeT commanders discussed a plan to attack PM's convoy during his visit to Srinagar. He, however, said a plethora of security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir ironically appeared to occasionally complicate their tasks, judging by the high behind-the-scenes drama that preceded Singh's visit here last week.
