| New twist to Shalin's murder for ransom | | Involvement of 3 drug addicts too figures | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 13: Shalin's cold-blooded murder case for ransom by two criminals got a new twist today, with police claiming that three drug addicts were also involved in the planning to kidnap the boy for money. The murder had yesterday sparked off strong protests by the angry people at Nai Basti and Satwari. Though people did not come on the roads today, few of them again attacked the house of one of the accused at Nai Basti, said sources. Police, however denied the reports of any attack on Devinder's residence today. Shalin Gupta (10), a fifth class student of Air Force school, Satwari, was abducted Saturday from outside his residence at Nai Basti for a ransom of Rs 10 lakh and later murdered mercilessly. His throat was slit and other body parts bore deep injury marks. Two main accused -- Davinder Singh, son of Tirath Singh, and Gagandeep Singh, son of Paramjeet Singh, of Gole Gujral were arrested by police yesterday. Davinder lives in Shalin's neighbourhood. The angry residents had yesterday ransacked Davinder's house and put it afire. His family members had already fled to safety. His house was attacked today too by some angry people. During the interrogation of Davinder and Gagandeep, names of three drug addicts too had figured in Shalin's kidnapping and murder, police sources said. Sources said the plan to abduct Shalin for ransom was made by Davinder, Gagandeep and the three drug-addicts. A hunt was on to nab them and police teams had been fanned out in different directions to catch hold of them, the sources added. Sources, however, did not disclose the names of the absconding drug addicts, saying this could hamper their investigation. Sources said Davinder had earlier too made an unsuccessful attempt to kidnap the minor son of a junior engineer from Nai Basti area. He was detained in the case, but was set free later, the sources added. A written complaint was lodged by the engineer with the Gandhi Nagar police station in this regard. DIG Farooq Khan had, however, refuted reports that Davinder was earlier also picked up in a kidnapping case. Meanwhile, Shalin's family members today left house for Haridwar along with his mortal remains.
