| Attention, MPs, MLAs! Stand in queue to get railway ticket | | | SUMIT SHARMA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 13: A separate reservation counter for MPs, MLAs, senior citizens and journalists at the railway station here has been shut "permanently". A directive in this regard has been issued by none other than a railway booking clerk who refuses to speak to anyone on this issue, and satisfy queries. If the order continued, MPs, MLAs, journalists and senior citizens would have to stand in long queues to get berths reserved for them. On counter No 2731 at the railway station, it was written in bold letters that they would be given only single tickets, and for getting berths reserved for their kith and kin, "VIPs" needed to stand in queues. When the concerned clerk B L Bathuriya was approached for his comments, he said the instructions in this regard had been given by railway minister Mamta Banerjee. The matter was also very much in the notice of station manager Ashwani Kumar, he informed. However, when Ashwani was contacted, he disassociated himself from what Bathuriya had stated, and ordered him to immediately remove the board which carried the "instructions". The Early Times investigation, however, revealed that Bathuriya, a well-connected man in the railways, was the blue-eyed of his seniors. He was actually posted at the ticket cancellation counter and f or performing other miscellaneous jobs, but he continued to hold the "lucrative" ticket booking counter, sources in the railways said. Out of nine reservation counters, only three were opened on the instructions of Bathuriya, the sources added. As the rush of passengers increased due to the closure of booking windows, people were left with the only alternative of taking tickets from agents on higher rates, sources said. If the roasters prepared by Bathuriya in the last six months were verified, truth would come out, the sources added. He was transferred to Dandyal three months back, but he continued to be at the railway station here, sources said.
