Over 50 protestors injured in police baton charge
BGSBU turns into battlefield

JAMMU, June 13: Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University on Sunday turned into battlefield when Police resorted baton charge on protesting students and fired in air. More than 50 students were injured in the clashes who have been hospitalized in District Hospital while four police personnel including Deputy Superintendent of Police also received injures.
The trouble started on account of Students of B-Tech course in College of Engineering of the University who had gone on strike following declaration of results. They were demanding grace marking in two subjects complaining that the two papers had come out of the syllabus and administration at the time of paper had assured them grace marking. These students were on protest in the University for the last three days and they were waiting response from Vice Chancellor of the University. However, as the protests became louder and intense police was called to disperse the mob of about 500 students who were protesting in the University campus.Some students went on rampaging spree smashing window panes of the classrooms in a fit of anger which was componded when the policemen resisted their actions.
Students alleged that when some policemen (SoG) allegedly misbehaved the students and abused them following which they entered into clash. Police fired in air to disperse the students however when they retaliated firing with stone pelting, police resorted to baton charge. More than 50 students have been hospitalized in District Hospital Rajouri.
Deputy Commissioner Rajouri and Senior Superintendent of Police also rushed to the spot. Senior citizens of Rajouri included Beopar Mandal President Bittu Shah, PDP leaders Tazeem Dar, Tahir Lone Farooq Ahmed, Congress leaders Sushil Sharma, Mushtaq Ahmed and Secretary Beopar Mandal Vipen Sahani met Vice Chancellor Masud Ahmed Choudhary and expressed anguish over the episode. PDP leaders were sent to the spot by the former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to take stock of the situation.
As per hospital record, Amir Mehmood son of Dr Mehmoof resident of Jammu, Abrar Hussain son Mohammad Qasim resident of Kashmir, Yasir Bilal son of Bilal Ahmed resident of Kashmir, Muzamil Mir son of Ghulam Qadir Mir resident of Kashmir, Junaid Waqar son of Farooq Ahmed resident of Srinagar, Ashfaq Shafi son of Mohammad Shafi resident of Kashmir, Sanjiv Katal son of Sham Singh resident of Jammu, Vinambra Chargotra son of VD Chargotra resident of Jammu , Showkat Ahmed son of Abdul Majeed resident of Anantnag Kashmir, Majeed Batt son of Mohammad Shafi resident of Srinagar Kashmir, Owais Punjabi son of Gulzar Punjabi resident of Srinagar Kashmir, Simranjeet Singh son of Inderjeet Singh resident of Jammu, Owaies Ahmed son of Bader Hussain resident of Rajouri, Mehmood Ahmed son of Bashir Ahmed resident of Rajouri, Fozia Ali daughter of Ghulam Ali resident of Charar-i-Sharief Kashmir, Faisul Mushtaq son of Mushtaq Ahmed Dar resident of Kashmir, Amir Ali son of Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din resident of Srinagar, Auqib Qureshi son of Ghulam Qadir resident of Kashmir, Mohin Akhter son of Akhter Hussain resident of Srinagar, Mushir Shawl son of Abass Ali resident of Srinagar, Ubaid Ahmed son of Ghulam Hussain resident of Kashmir, Ajit Kumar son of Om Prakash resident of Jammu, Touseef Ahmed son of Abdul Gani resident of Kashmir, and Auqib Altaf son of Mohammad Altaf resident of Rajouri were admitted in District Hospital. Four police men including Deputy Superintendent of Police, Farooq Ahmed were also injured in the incident.
The protest of the students continued till late in the evening.. The angry students said that they will not lift dharna till their demands were not conceded.
Meanwhile University authorities said that the protesting students had tried to abort entry of some students into Test Hall in College of the University following which they called police to control the situation. However when they turned violent, police resorted lathicharge on them. "We had National Level Examination in College and these students tried to disrupt this exam following which we called police", University authorities said adding despite persuasion by University authorities and senior police officers, some students went on rampage and damaged University property.
