Early Times Report Jammu, June 16: Natrang Director, Balwant Thakur has been nominated to the prestigious seven-member Cultural Committee of experts for the Commonwealth Games-2010, Delhi. This committee will be responsible for selecting and finalizing cultural programmes to be held during the Commonwealth Games scheduled for October 3- 14, 2010 at Delhi. Cultural Committee comprises experts from various art forms like music, dance, puppetry, traditional forms, creative choreography, and tribal performing forms. Balwant Thakur has expertise in theatre. During the Commonwealth Games - 2010, Delhi will buzz with international level performing arts presentations and various events to take place at different venues of Delhi. This committee of experts will give a final shape to this International Cultural extravaganza. Balwant Thakur's nomination to such a prestigious forum is seen as a great honor not only for him in person but for the theatre fraternity of the country as well. The first meeting of the expert committee is scheduled to be held in Delhi on 30th of June, 2010. Balwant Thakur's is the highest indigenous honor holder in performing arts.. Decorated with over one hundred National and International honors, Balwant Thakur is the first Indian theatre director who made it to the Frankfurt International Theatre Festival by the sheer power of his creativity and innovative work. He is now being considered as the emerging International face of Indian Theatre. Balwant Thakur has made presentations in London, Oxford, Brighton, Denmark, Bangkok, Dubai, Sharjah, Berlin, Frankfurt, Moscow, Rome, Belgrade, Singapore, Malaysia, Stratford and Dhaka. He also worked as Secretary, J & K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages from 1995 to 2003. He also served on the Board of prestigious institutions like, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, New Delhi and North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala.. He has been an expert for the Department of Culture (M.P.) Department of Language and Culture, Himachal Pradesh and National School of Drama, New Delhi. Presently he is heading Natrang Jammu, an institution that has kept the city of Jammu culturally alive and vibrant. |
