| Former SP booked for sexually assaulting lady constable | | | Jammu, Oct 18 Jammu and Kashmir police on Wednesday said that it has registered a case against a retired Superintendent of Police for allegedly sexually assaulting his woman subordinate, about five years ago. Sources in the department told News Agency of Kashmir that the case has been registered following the directions issued by Station Human Rights Commission, where the victim had lodged a complaint against the erring police officer. If sources have to be believed, the SHRC had directed Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu to book the accused in the concerned police station. Giving details, sources said, Zeenath Chowha, now a Selection Grade Constable, was working under then SP Chowdhary Chiragdin at SP Office Jammu in 2000. The lady constable had filed a written complaint with the then Inspector General of Police Jammu, who had initiated an enquiry in the matter. “However, the complaint was dismissed as the allegations were proved to be false and baseless”, sources said adding, “Following it the lady constable approached SHRC and filed a written complaint against her immediate superior officer”. After hearing both the sides, the SHRC reportedly directed the SSP Jammu for registration of case against the erring police officer. “It was following this directive that a case has been registered at Channi Police Post”, source said. The accused police officer has retired in 2005. (NAK)
