| DD Kashir to be operated from Srinagar | | KASHMIR WILL BE BACK IN SRINAGAR, SAYS MUNSHI | | SRINAGAR,October 18 , Kashir Channel will now operate from Srinagar, said the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting P R Das Munshi during his day long visit to Kashmir on Wednesday. He also launched Prasar Bharti's Rainbow FM Radio comprising seven channels. Even as the former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee had announced on April 20, 2003 that Kashmir Channel would be shifted to Srinagar but it was never implemented. And for last several years the Kashmiri politicians have been supporting the demand of its shifting. Mr Munshi responding to the demand announced here today that the channel will operate from Srinagar irrespective of the fact where the programmes will be made. "It will operate here with maximum administrative control in Kashmir" he said. But did not set any time for the same. Mr Munshi also announced that henceforth 75 percent of commissioned programmes will be meant for people residing and living within the Jammu and Kashmir and 25 percent by those residents of state living outside J & K. "This will accommodate the talent of the state". He also dispelled any doubts about interference from Doordarshan Kendra, and said, "No DD staff will be associated with the programming neither will any interference be allowed." Flanked by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad the minister also Prasar Bharti's Rainbow FM with seven channel which will be available in Srinagar , Jammu, Bhaderwah, Rajouri, Poonch, Kathua and Nowshehra. "This will add a new dimension to Radio programming in the state" said Munshi adding that Rainbow was a popular FM station in the country. Mr Munshi, refused to call this new package to Kashmir as a gift and preferred to call it 'Idee' instead. The gift amount being paid to children on the eve of Eid. The Minister announced that case of allotments of Commissioned programmes for Kashmir Channel in the recent past has been handed over to CBI. The ministry conducted an inquiry and found irregularities in these allotments. Now there is a new policy of which is transparent and all allotments will be made with the involvement of local people. When asked by a question that these allotments were fair he said "do not force me to name the people". Mr Munshi said that under the 11th plan special provision had been made for strengthening LPT's and VPT's in the far flung areas. He also reviewed the programmes of Radio Kashmir and Doordarshan with the top brass of Prasar Bharti and local officers and laid stress on making them more people friendly. In this context he said that Radio Kashmir's current affair programme Shaharbeen will be strengthened and similar programmes will be launched from Doordarshan.
