| Pakistan arrests 22 Indian fishermen | | |
Wed Oct 18: KARACHI (Reuters) - Pakistani maritime security forces on Wednesday arrested 22 Indian fishermen and impounded four boats for illegally entering into the country's territorial waters in the Arabian sea.
The arrests were made 50 km inside Pakistan's exclusive economic zone waters, an official said.
"The Indian fishermen were warned time and again not to indulge in illegal fishing but they repeatedly violate the laws," said security official, Atiq-ur-Rehman.
"The Indian fishermen repeatedly come into our economic zone to explore our rich fishing resources," he said.
The two South Asian rivals frequently arrest each other's fishermen for intruding into territorial waters despite a thaw in relations since they launched a peace process in early 2004.
In September last year, Pakistan and India exchanged 687 civilian prisoners, most of them fishermen.
