| Army's new mission: Eradicate unemployment to uproot militancy | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, June 20: Realising the need for eradicating unemployment to uproot militancy, army today opened its first employment exchange -- Youth Employment Guidance Node (YEGN) -- near the Line of Control (LoC) at Keri here. On day 1, 11 unemployed youth were issued registration cards by the army authorities. As the state was faced with acute unemployment problem, this army step would go a long way in dealing with this menace, army sources said. The YEGN was inaugurated in the morning by Brig Vinod Kumar Adapta in a function organised by Ace of Spades division of 16 Sikh Light Infantry. The function was attended by about 500 unemployed youth and their parents.Col S K Pathak said YEGN would train the candidates for facing interviews of various government and private jobs. "We will also provide them study material and other requisite material for competitive exams," he added. Col Pathak said YEGN would also monitor the dates of various interviews, examinations and recruitments and accordingly inform the registered students. He said application forms were being provided to the candidates free of cost.Brig Adapa said Indian army "knows everything from killing militants to holding career counselling for students". He said YEGN was the first step towards a major programme of army to contain unemployment in this state. The brigadier said YEGN would provide candidates all information related to examinations, tests and interviews in the fields of finance, insurance, banking, army, air force, navy, NDA and other fields. He said mock tests would also be held to prepare candidates for interviews.The function was also attended by ADC, Rajouri, R S Mehta.
