JAMMU, June 20: June 20: Efforts are on to disrupt the annual Amarnath Yatra and outrage the religious sentiments of the devotees of Lord Shiva. Paradoxically, it is not only the protagonist of the state's merger with Pakistan Syed Ali Shah Geelani of the Tehrik-e-Hurriyat who has once again opposed the duration of the Shri Amarnath Yatra with a view to pandering to the communalists in Kashmir, the State Raj Bhawan and the Omar Abdullah-led government in the state have also taken steps to vitiate the Amarnath Yatra and discourage the Yatris from undertaking the annual Yatra.
It would be no exaggeration to say that Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the State Raj Bhawan and Omar Government are treading the same path with a view to outraging the Hindu sentiments and establishing that Kashmir is not part of that secular India where everyone has the right to religious freedom.
What has Geelani done to vitiate the Yatra to the Holy Cave Shrine? Geelani has directed the authorities in the state to reduce the Yatra period to just 15 days. He has outraged the sentiments of the Hindu devotees across the world by once again saying that the proposed Yatra period is designed to disturb the fragile ecology of Kashmir and pollute its environment. He has directed the authorities to abandon forthwith the move to prolong the Yatra period to nearly two months, failing which his sectarian and pro-Pakistan outfit would organize protest demonstrations across the Kashmir Valley.
Don't go by the words that the "Muslims of Kashmir always welcome" the Yatra to the Holy Cave Shrine. He had said so in 2008 as well. Go by his intention and his intention is that he and his intolerant and backward-looking outfit want to disrupt the Yatra on one pretext or the other. He is a fanatic. He believes in exclusiveness. He doesn't believe in a polity that respects the religious sentiments of all or that gives full religious freedom to all the communities. He is an ardent believer in an ideology that hates all other ideologies and that considers all the non-Muslims as "Kafirs", who deserve nothing but persecution, execution, humiliation and exclusion.
Geelani had talked about Kashmir's ecology, wildlife and environment in 2008 as well overlooking the fact that it was the Islamic radicals and the Pakistan-sponsored mercenaries and terrorists who had plundered the green-gold of Kashmir on an unprecedented scale between 1990 and 2008 and destroyed to the extent possible the Kashmir's ecology, wildlife and environment not for achieving the state's merger with Pakistan but for material gains or for becoming rich overnight. Did he oven once denounce those Pakistan-sponsored, indoctrinated and trained mercenaries and terrorists who had been playing havoc with the Kashmir's fragile ecology, precious wildlife and salubrious environment? No. He did not even once denounce those who indulged in all kinds of activities in the name of Jihad. Instead, there are instances and instances that prove that Geelani always sided with them and became a party to everything that the Islamic radicals did to destroy green-gold and bleed the Kashmiri Muslim society in the name of Jihad.
Syed Ali Shah Geelani's approach was all through sectarian before 2008 and he continues to remain so even today. He was opposed to the Amarnath Yatra before 2008 and he continues to bitterly oppose the Amarnath Yatra even today. He has nothing to do with the Kashmir's ecology or with the Kashmir's wildlife or with the Kashmir's salubrious environment. Nor has he anything to do with the suffering Kashmiri Muslims. He is a rich and protected man. He lives in the Srinagar's highly safe, secure and posh Hyderpura locality. His only objective always is to foment troubles in Kashmir so that the common Kashmiri Muslims suffer on account of the activities he indulges in everyday. Hence, what Syed Ali Shah Geelani said on Friday regarding the duration of the Amarnath Yatra should not surprise anyone. He said what was expected of him. After all, his strength lies in the politics of rabble-rousing, politics of communalism, politics of disruption and politics that induces gullible and innocent Muslim to take the law of the land in their hands and suffer in the process.
