| 2-day open district fencing championship begins at Reasi | | |
REASI, OCTOBER 18 A 2-days Open District Fencing Championship 2006-07 organized by the Reasi Ameature Fencing Association in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir State Ameature Fencing Association Jammu in collaboration with local tehsil administration and sponsored by UN RAju IVRCL commenced at Government Degree College Reasi today. Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi Mr J L Sharma inaugurated the championship was the chief guest while Sr. Commandant CISF Jyotipuram presided over the function. After oath ceremony, the Principal Government Degree College Reasi Dr Sham Lal Gupta in his welcome address thanked the local administration for organizing this event at Reasi for the first time. He said that with the start of this programme at Reasi, the local boys and girls would have good opportunities for the techniques of this fencing competition. Speaking on occasion, Mr Sharma said that in earlier times this game was played in other countries like European and now the event is also flourishing in our country. With the best efforts of SDM Reasi, this competition has been arranged have at Reasi for the first time. He said that over 80 students of various schools which include Happy Model HSS Udhampur, HSS Boys and Girls Reasi and students of private institutions are taking part in this competition. He appreciated the efforts of participating students who are taking part in the event and also announced Rs.5000 for the encouragement of the participating students. The SDM Reasi Mr Ajeet Kumar Sahu said that to increase awareness amongst the children and youth of Reasi, NIS qualified coaches were invited from Jammu who gave technical guidance to over 70 students of various educational institutions at GHSS, Reasi lasted for 10 days. He lauded the efforts of the coaches who gave practical training with great zeal and devotion. Three local clubs namely Chenab Fencing Club, Zorabar Singh Fencing Club and Bhimgarh Fencing Club are taking part in this competition. Starting the proceeding of the competition, coaches provided demonstration to Mr Varun Slathia V/s Bhishamber Singh of Chenab Fencing Club, Ujabal Gupta V/s Manminder Singh of Zorabar Singh Club and Sania Arora V/s Shivani of Bhimgarh Club in which Mr Bishamber Singh, Manminder Singh and Shivani were declared winners. In the first round under 14 years category in EPEE tea, GHS Kambla Danga won the gold medal while Trikuta Shishka Niketan secured silver while Tarabal Niketan and HS Kambla Danga were given bronze medal.
