11 JEs of PDD draw salary without attending duty | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 23: On a complaint lodged by Graduate Engineers Association (GEA) before the Power Devel-opment Department (PDD) that some of the Junior Engineers absented themselves from duty for years at end, the Development Comm-issioner Power Development Department (PDD) took swift action and found that allegations were true. In connivance with higher ups in the department, these engineers were drawing salaries without doing any work. Interestingly the department is in the charge of the Chief Minister... These defaulting JEs have been directed to report to Additional Secretary to Government, PDD, Civil Secretariat, Srinagar, within 30 days failing which necessary action would be taken against them. The erring engineers included four of M&RE Wing Kashmir, two from S&O Wing Kashmir, and five from C&S Wing Jammu. JEs of M&RE Wing namely Mufti Asraru' Haq had not attended the duty since August 31, 1999, Suhail Ahmad Qadri since May 3, 1999, Sheikh Aijaz Ahmad since December 2, 2000, and Farooq Ahmad Najar since January 28, 2008. Among the absenting JEs of S&O Wing Kashmir are Nissar Rasool Wani since May 1995 and Khalid Jehangir Parray since May 1994. Five absenting JEs of C&S Wing Jammu, include Tabasun Banday since June 4, 1991, Qazi Tabir Hussain since November 5, 1990, Irfan Ahmad Shahmiri since September 20, 1990, Mir Idress Ahmad from June 12, 1995, and Ajit Kour Sasson since January 15, 2008. Office bearers of the Graduate Engineers Assoc-iation (GEA) wanted to know who was responsible for huge losses to the public exchequer for so many years. They further said that many unemployed degree and diploma holding engineers should be provided financial relief. GEA maintained that this could be the situation in more departments and as such strict vigil needs to be maintained. Frequent visits of ministers and high ups seemed eyewash, they said. If the complaint was not filed, the JEs in question would never have been asked to disclose where they were. Amusingly Chief Engineer PDD, Mohammad Kazmi refused to comment on the issue. Commissioner-Secretary PDD, B.R Sharma could not be contacted for his comments.
