| Police accused of trying to hush up case | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 23: Already under severe criticism for mishandling the June 11 Shalin abduction and murder case, police were today accused of trying to hush up the case to shield the accused. The apprehensions in this regard were made by none else than Shalin's father Naresh Gupta in an interaction with scribes who visited his residence at Nai Basti today. He alleged that the civil and police administration was trying to hush up the case under political influencne. Naresh said the government had ordered the transfer of DSP (Gandhinagar) Kulwant Jasrotia at a time when he was close to unravel the mystery behind his son's abduction and murder for a ransom of Rs 10 lakh. He felt that the transfer had been ordered under political influence to hush up the case. The DSP's transfer had led to the weakening of the case, he added. Naresh said the transfer was made with ill-intentions because the DSP was about to expose the names of the politicians who had tried to patronize the accused. "Under the prevailing circumstances, I don't think we will get justice," he said and urged the government to bring back the DSP for an unbiased probe into the murder of his son. His views were seconded by former ward No 23 councillor Pawan Singh who too demanded a free and fair investigation into the case. "I appeal the government for a transparent probe into the incident so that the culprits are brought to book," he demanded.
