| Saroori releases Rs 1 crore for the project | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 24: Calling upon executing agencies to speed up work and ensure timely completion of the projects taken up under R&B sector in the State, Minister for R&B, G.M. Saroori has instructed National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) and Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) to obtain No Objection Certificate from R&B Department for cutting roads, wherever it becomes necessary while taking forward the development projects in the State. The Minister was reviewing the progress of under execution road projects coming up in Srinagar city at a meeting held here today. Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Nasir Aslam Wani, Commissioner Secretary PWD (R&B) Mehboob Iqbal, Chief Engineer, R&B, Nazir Ahmad, Chief Engineer, Mechanical Engineering Department, Farooq Ahmad and Managing Director, JKPCC, Tehsin Mustafa were present on the occasion. Expressing anguish over the delay in completing some projects taken up by NBCC in Srinagar city, the Minister asked ERA to check this tendency. The meeting was informed that macdamization work has been resumed in the city following some improvement in the weather conditions. He asked engineers to complete macdamization of the remaining portion of the Lal Chowk besides other parts of the city and district headquarters. The Minister said that 50mm thick macadam would be laid on all the main district and town roads. It was decided in the meeting that historic Zero Bridge would be reconstructed to ease the traffic pressure in the civil line areas of the city and JKPCC has been asked to prepare Detailed Project Report early so that it is submit to Centre under Central Road Fund (CRF) for approval. The Minister released Rs. 1 crore under projectization for the purpose and asked the agency to start ground work of the project. Saroori instructed the Chief Engineer, MED to make fully functional the hot mixing plants in the Valley so that R&B Department lifts the Bituminous from.
