| APMCC resorts to annual Gangbal Yatra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 24: Focusing on its mission to preserve the centuries old moorings of cultural heritage of Kashmiri Pandits, which is near total in oblivion in Valley, All Parties Migrants Co-ordination Committee (APMCC) has resorted to annual Harmukat Ganga Yatra with full enthusiasm and devotion for second time in succession. Number of Pandit devotees from Jammu and various parts of country including few from valley today reached Srinagar to take part in the holy pilgrimage for Harmukat Ganga, popularly known as Gangbal lake where a Vedic Havan will be performed tomorrow amidst the chanting of Vedic Mantras. 'Shradh Tarpan' will also be performed of the deceased. According to APMCC Chief, Vinod Pandit an advance party of devotees including party team members carrying essential commodities for the Yatries had left for pious Gangbal yatra yesterday. The main Yatra, however, commenced today from Naran Nag, the base camp of yatra. After performing the pilgrimage, the devotees will reach Srinagar on June 26th and by June 27th they would reach Jammu. It is worthwhile to mention here that APMCC under the leadership of its Chairperson, Vinod Pandit, had started this holy yatra in the month of June last year with a dream to revive Kashmiri Pandits' age old tradition decayed either due to the vagaries of bad weather or the whimsical approach of the rulers of those times. It is believed that Kashmiri Pandits use to immerse the ashes of deceased of their family members in the pious Gangbal lake, situated on 14,000 ft high on Harmukat Ganga range. Legends say that soon after the immersion of ashes in the lake waters, lakhs of insects come over the surface of water and elope with ashes. A devotee from Jammu Dr Bansi Lal Pandit has appreciated the efforts of APMCC saying that it has revived the centuries' old tradition of Kashmiri Pandits. APMCC leader has expressed satisfaction over the growing interest of Kashmiri Pandits to have a glimpse of their heritage places. Vinod Pandit has exhorted Kashmiri Pandit Community to take part in the initiative to preserve their culture, temples and shrines in valley which are the last hope for their return to valley, to meet to their roots.
