| Hiranagar roads give a bumpy ride | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 24: The roads in the Hiranagar Assembly constituency along with International Border (IB) falling in district Kathua and Samba is in dilapidated condition. Almost all roads in the constituency are unfit for smooth flow of traffic. Condition of road heading towards IB from National Highway 1-A is worse, and source of fatal road accidents. The road from Londi Morh at National Highway to village Londi on zero line about 8.5 km in length, has not been repaired for many years and this road is also one of the shortest routes to IB from National Highway. As far as driving is concerned, the commuters get a bumpy ride. Locals said that there were also rumors that road was taken over by General Reserve Engin-eering Force (GREF) keeping in view its strategic importance, but no work on the ground was visible. Interestingly, this road is also lifeline to the thousands of villages included Chann Khatriyan, Kattal Brahmana, Kattal Gujran, Jandi Colony, Sherpur(Bala and Pain), Panjgrain, Dunga, Chack Bana, and Londi. They also maintained that because of construction of another railway track along with existing one, the railway authorities had built another bridge on this route by demolishing old one, the condition has further worsened. Local residents informed that another road from Ghagwal to Dayalchak via Rajpura and Hira Nagar town, almost 20 km in length, is also in dilapidated condition. This road connects dozens of villages to National Highway 1-A providing road facilities to the thousands of people. One of the biggest seasonal "nullah" of the area, "Bein" (almost 500 metres in breadth) intersects this road near village Chak Lala. Despite the repeated demand of local residents to construct a bridge, nothing concrete was done so far. The situation worsens in the rainy season and , due to recurrent floods passenger vehicles cannot cross the nullah for almost two months. When contacted, MLA Hira Nagar Durga Dass, who is also a resident of Sanoora village, said that he had raised this issue in the Assembly many times. He said that both of these roads were handed over to GREF, and hopefully construction would be started in two months, and after that problems of the locals would be mitigated to large extent.
