LMD imposes fine of Rs 6500

JAMMU, June 24: To protect consumers interest, a team of officers of Legal Metrology Department conducted extensive checking in Jammu city and Akhnoor area. More than 18 establishments were inspected and eight traders were booked under different provisions of Weights and Measures Act. The team imposed a fine of Rs 4000 from the owners of four sweetshops for using unverified weighing instruments in Gumat area and in Talab Tillo, Pawn Ice Cream parlor was also booked for selling dry fruit packages without mandatory declarations and a fine of Rs.1500 was recovered on the spot.
In other cases the team also booked one gold smith and one scrap dealer road and Rs.1000 was recovered from them. The team also booked one electrical trader at Gurrdwara Sundersingh road for selling electrical items without mandatory declarations and for using unverified weighting instrument. Total amount of Rs.6500 was recovered as fine from eight defaulters and traders were instructed to use only standard and verified weighing instruments and warned of legal proceedings as warranted under Act against defaulters.
