| In 2010, Rajouri kids await 2008 nutrition | | Anganwadi centres allegedly feeding children only on official records | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, June 24: IT may sound incredible. But it is true. Thousands of kids enrolled in various Anganwadi Centres in border district of Rajouri are still waiting for nutrition supply sanctioned in 2008. Courtesy: The Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD) has yet to supply quota of 2008 ration to these centres. This has also put a question mark on the tall claims of Child Development Child Development Project officials which show regular supply of nutrition in the official records. Sources said that Child Development Project, Rajouri has not received 1386 quintal of ration meant for 2008 year even after two years of long wait. Sources said that even though Child Development Project officials have paid money for supplying rice to them but why there have been such a delay the reason better known to CAPD officials. Interestingly, Project Officer of Child Development Project in Rajouri termed "little matter" saying the two departments will solve the matter on their own. He, however, admitted of having paid amount for 1383 quintal of rice in 2008 and also said that same has not been received so far. Meanwhile, this Project Officer denied to disclose his identity. When contacted, Assistant Director, CAPD Rajouri Kewal Krishen admitted that they have to supply 1384 quintal ration to CDP, Rajouri which is pending since 2008, he said that they have shortage of the supply of APL ration and they cannot supply rice to the department. "CDP Rajouri must approach Commissioner Secretary, CAPD Jammu for refund of the amount they have deposited for this ration as I am hapless to help them", Kewal Krishen said. It is pertinent mentioning here that there are total 1404 Anganwadi Centres where Child Development Project officials had to provide nutrition to all enrolled kids. However, it has been more than two years now in supplying material for nutrition from CAPD has also put question mark on the transparency of Child Development Project. "When there was no supply in 2008, how CDP officials provide nutrition to the kids", sources questioned adding that maximum of Anganwadi Centres are providing nutrition on papers only and the ground situation is totally different from the paper work. "There are very few centres where nutrition is being provided otherwise it is only shown on papers", sources added.
