| Bonhomie of forces at Chamliayal | | On their 'extra guard', BSF officials make media a weary lot | | KUNAL SHRIVATSA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 24: Every year a large number of media persons enthusiastically reach Chamliyal village to cover the historical mela and throughout in the past the hospitality they received from the Border Security Force remained impeccable but this time around it was all chaos and mismanagement on part of the BSF officials. It was due to the poor handling of the event by BSF that the journalists representing different organisations including print and electronic media waited for hours together to reach no man's land where the pleasantries between the officials of the two paramilitary forces had to take place. The confusion over who is and who is not going to the official venue remained till the last minute there by exposing the lack of coordination among the BSF personnel deputed at the Baba Chamliyal's shrine, enroute no man's land and those looking after the media personnel's visit. On reaching Chamliyal this morning, the BSF officials told media persons that they have to wait for some time as the officials of Pakistan Rangers are yet to arrive. After about one and a half hour, suddenly the reporters and cameramen were asked to board a bus which will take them to the venue of the official function. But a single bus was not enough for about 70 to 80 journalists and many others left out. Even this could not deter the passion of the journalists to reach the last border out post and they began to cover the distance of about 300 metres on foot. However, the walking journalists were stopped mid way by BSF personnel and they were astonished to see that their colleagues who had gone on bus have also been sent back from the entry gate of no man's land. Throughout this disorder, the journalists did not loose their temper and remained calm. In the meantime, the journalists, whose names and organisations had been scrutinized over and over again by the BSF officials, were again asked to proceed towards the no man's land. However, on reaching the entry gate they were again stopped there and forced to wait for at least twenty minutes under scorching sun.
