Casting doubts on demilitarisation, Governor Lt.General (Retd.) S.K.Sinha while inaugurating a mini hydel power project at Drumulla Kupwara said though some leaders talk demilitarisation, but people of the state favour presence of army in the state. The Governor was on his return from quake affected areas of Kupwara and Uri.
Claiming that army is always in a state of preparedness to help people in most difficult times, Governor said every possible steps will be taken to translate Chief Minister Gh Nabi Azad’s agenda of “Khush-Hal Kashmir”.
Quoting people in Uri as having said that army comes to their rescue in the hours of crisis, he said he was surprise to listen political leaders talking demilitarisation in Srinagar. Saying that he feels proud of army, he regretted that troopers commit wrongs during anti-militancy operations , but those found guilty are sternly punished.
Citing the example of Bader Payeen , governor said Major Rehaman was not court martialled, but dismissed from service. Saying that 1000 mini hydel projects were planned the time, when he took over as Governor of the state, he said 550 such projects will be commissioned in Kashmir alone and Drugmulla mini hydel project will cater to the electricity needs of 40 families. He also appreciated Chief Minister Gh Nabi Azad for his commitment to peace and development in the state.
