EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 28: With the results of all the graduate courses out, University of Jammu has started admissions for its Post Graduate degree and diploma courses. The last date for receipt of applications is July 12.
According to official sources, over 500 application forms were sold on the very first day of the admission. The admission prospectuses along with an application form are available on four counters established by the authorities on the campus. It costs Rs 175.
A candidate can apply in maximum five subjects and the selection would completely be on merit basis. The last date for receipt of applications with late fee is fixed for July 15.
The first merit list would be released on July 19.
Hundreds of aspirants from different parts of the State including Ladakh region thronged the Campus and serpentine queues were witnessed on sale counters.
Sources said that the application forms fell short due to huge rush of students on the campus.
Dean Academic Affairs, Prof R D Sharma said, "We have made elaborate arrangements for sale and receipt of admission forms. Four sale counters have been set up so that the students don't face any problem. The first merit list would be displayed on July 19."
Meanwhile, the students procuring admission forms expressed their resentment against the University's decision to postpone entrance examination.
"We were hoping that selection to various PG courses would be held on the basis of knowledge discarding the obsolete system of getting admission in the varsity.
The decision to defer entrance examination was highly condemnable and objectionable," Tarun Sharma, an aspirant said.
He however, hoped that he would get an entry into the campus on merit basis.
Another aspirant, Shikha Khajuria also seconded the views of Tarun and lamented, "I don't think I would find my name in the merit list to be released after few days. If it would have been the entrance test, I would have got the chance to find an entry in any of the department."
No student organisation established guidance bureau on the campus.
Every year, the activists of National Students Union of India (NSUI), Progressive Student Association (PSA), Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and others used to provide counseling to the fresh graduates.
However, there was no one available to guide the students willing to get admission in various post graduate courses today.
As some of the students, who purchased the application forms, were seen confused in making the choice of subject. While others were unable to reach the department they wanted to visit since they came first time in the campus.
The authorities had also tightened the security cover inside the campus with police and security guards of the varsity checking every vehicle entering the campus and noting down their registration numbers at the entry gates while petrol has also been intensified to avoid any untoward incident.
Official sources said large number of students has been coming to the campus. "We have been asked to keep a vigil in the campus. This is a routine but during admission season, we usually increase security as a precautionary measure," an official said.
The tainted glasses vehicles have been banned inside the campus after several clashes and firing incisssdents in the camps here recently.
