| Ministers frequent visits make govt offices non-functional | | | Early Times Report,
Rajouri, June 28: Atleast 25 labourers of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme were made to wait for hours long for getting their pending wages done outside the office of Assistant Commissioner Develo-pment and Block Development Officer, Rajouri.
Reason: Frequent visits of ministers in Rajouri district have made the government offices non-functional as most of the officers remained busy in pleasing the ministers.
Maximum of the officers remained out of their offices when ministers visit the area which has become a routine thing and common people suffer as they come from rural areas for solving the grievances.
These labourers were made to wait as some officials present in the offices advised them till the tour of minister of state Shabir Ahmed Khan was over as ACD and BDO were accompanying the minister to some areas.
"We were harassed by the RDD officials today when we approached the office of BDO and ACD for getting our wages", a labourer of Budhal Mohammad Farooq said and alleged that the officials thrashed and misbehaved them.
It has become a routine matter in Rajouri when the officers seemed out of their offices accompanying the ministers.
"I had come in connection with a work of NREGA but I had to face wrath of the officials in ACD office who told us to vacate the office", a resident of Palma Ashfaq Hussain said adding that they also abused us.
Same is the case with most of the offices in Rajouri. When a minister visit the area, all the officers quick fixed them leaving their offices at the mercy of junior officials who seemed unable to redress the problems of the people. "These ministers were elected for redressing the public demands but they are turning a problem for us", locals said.
