| CPI (M) State Committee's two-day session concludes | | Says New Delhi half-hearted about composite dialogue | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 28 : Two-day session of the J&K State Committee CPI(M) concluded today at Srinagar. It adopted the following resolution:- J&K State Committee CPI (M) expresses its deep shock and anguish over the sad and unfortunate killing of a couple of young people in past few days. Subsequently one more youth has fallen to police firing at Sopor. These brutal killings have justifiably aroused anger in all sections of the population throughout the state. These killings have only further alienated the people. There is no excuse for such atrocities. Despite repeated assurance by the central and state governments of zero tolerance towards human rights violations, the fact remains that little has been done to punish those responsible for such heinous crimes. Any more vacillation to act firmly against such elements is bound to put question mark on the credibility of the government. Rhetoric and mere ordering of enquiries is not enough to restore the shaken confidence of the people. It is imperative that the central and state authorities take firm and visible action against those responsible for such acts. Any delay will only compound ongoing uncertainty in the state. The Committee expressed its serious concern about lack of political initiative by the Central Government. The recent visit of the Prime Minister to Srinagar was conspicuous by the absence of any output. Government of India seems half-hearted in pushing forward the composite dialogue with Pakistan. The Committee strongly feels that the UPA Govt. gets down to the serious business of strengthening the dialogue process and provides political frame work to make this process result-oriented. |
