Delhi-Jammu bus travel operators mess, passengers tortured
6/28/2010 11:26:20 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 28 : Delhi-Jammu travel bus operators are hell bent to torture passengers, especially pilgrims to Mata Vaishno Devi. As they charge as per their will throwing all the norms to wind. Prevailing game of commission in the business has become bone of contention. Passengers have to pay Rs 350 for an ordinary ticket which could only be obtained at cost of Rs 200 only if the commission system is put an end.
Not only has this but operators at Delhi's Lal Qaila have taken passengers particularly pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi for a ride. No once or twice a week but every day one last bus is run at about 10pm, wherein passengers are being tortured virtually. As ticket providers confirm departure of bus at 8pm to 8:15 pm but actually it is delayed for booking remaining seats.
"I was told that bus will leave at 8:15pm, I reached the spot at 8pm and boarded the bus. Bus started moving ahead and returned back wherefrom it has started to collect remaining passengers. Then it repeated the same and it repeated the similar exercise for five times till 10:15 pm" said a passenger bearing ticket no 002170 from Awadh Travels. He said after bus started journey, it halted five times in half an hour. He informed that at 1am in the night bus was stopped for passengers to offer them dinner.
It was not the end of travesty said another passenger Nidhi Sharma actually a pilgrim Mata Vaishno Devi. She said that bus no 100 started journey at 10pm and it should reached Jammu at about 10 am, though it is hardly seven to eight hours run, but it reached Jammu at 1pm. Despite following the route prescribed by the transport authorities bus has opted for interior routes of Punjab for unknown reasons, she added. However, no such reports have been received from Jammu operators yet. But one fails to understand that isn't there any authority at the helm of affairs which could address the menace committed by Delhi travel operators.
"It seems that there is nexus between government agencies and tour and travel operators. Otherwise, how come a few people can make jam packed bus passengers hostage at their will illegally" Sunil Kumar a passengers said and added authorities should probe the entire fiasco in the interest of common people otherwise it will lead to serious circumstances some time in future. Will any body pay attention towards the miseries of these ill fated passengers, remains worth to watch?
