Spectre of black diwali is haunting over 7000 labourers working in various state govt departments in Jammu and Kashmir as the government has failed to pay their wages for the last two years. Addressing a press conference here today, state secretary of the CPI(M) Mohd Yusuf Tarigami said, " 7,000 daily-wage labourers, who have been working in public health engineering , power, development, floriculture and forest departments, are the worst sufferers and their families are starving because they have not been paid wages for the last two years.” State secretary of the He said no concrete steps were taken to address the issue despite bringing it in to the notice of the state Chief minister. He said, the matter has been brought to the notice of the state Chief Minister but only assurances have been given and no concrete step has been taken so far to pay the wages to these labourers. He said in the absence of the non-implementation of the labour laws the workers are the worst sufferers as the benefits eluded them. He claimed thousands of workers at Kalakote coal mines, river valley project in Basohali, rail project at Banihal and at industrial unit in Samba in Jammu and Kashmir were facing several problems on account of the exploitation by their respective managements but the state government was acting as mute spectators. |
