IT and Sports exposition on wheels at Udhampur rly station

Udhampur June 28 : To showcase the vision and achievement of India in Information Technology (IT) and Sports, an exposition on wheels on specially designed train called ' Commonwealth Express', reached Udhampur Railway Station this morning. The exposition is jointly run by the department of Information Technology and Ministry of Railways.
In an impressive function held at railway station Udhampur this morning, the Minister of State for Co-operative, Stationary Printing, S&T, Planning & Finance Departments, Dr. Manhor Lal Sharma, in his capacity as chief guest declared the exhibition open for people of all walks of life and students in particular.
MLA. Chenani, Krishan Chander Bhagat, District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Basheer Ahmed Khan, Senior Director, Ministry of Information Technology (MIT), Government of India, Mr. S.P. Singh Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Surinder Gupta, Sports Officer, Northern Railway, Mrs. B.M. Bhullar, Superintendent Northern Railway, Udham-pur, officers of various departments, students of private and government educational institutions and prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
Wishing a grand success to the Commonwealth Express Trains, the Minister said that the Exhibition Train combining the ideas of Sports and IT would go a long way to showcase our capabilities as a nation.
Highlighting India's achievements in Sports and IT sectors, he said that the exposition would certainly create greater awareness among people about the role of ICT in every day life, its significance as catalyst to social, economic and political transformation and its critical application in bringing about good governance by providing an interface between the government and people.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA, Chenani highlighted the role of Indian Railway saying that it has always served as an instrument of change in the socio-economic status of people across socio-diversities.
Describing the arrival of Commonwealth Train at Udhampur Railway Station as a landmark day for the city, the DDC said that the aim of exhibition was to disseminate information about the significant achievements in Sports and IT.
He spoke at length about major initiatives already taken in the district to provide easy access to consumers near to their door steps under information technology sector.
Students of different educational institutions presented a colourful cultural programme.
As the train chugged in at Platform No.1 at Udhampur Railway Station this morning, a huge crowd gathered at the platform, gave vent to their excitement about the much awaited exhibition.
