Jammu: The government has placed under suspension Keertan Singh, a Horticulture
Development Officer in the government who owned Harminder Public School Jammu where a class 9th student Jatinder Singh was thrashed by the principal leading to his suicide.
The episode has once again exposed the level of unaccountability among the government official who run their private business and go scot-free. Keertan Singh who is behind bars now has also been denied bail following public outcry. It has been learnt that he was working as Horticulture Development Officer but evading his duties for so many years.
Sources revealed that he was posted as HDO Dooru in Anantnag in 2003 but did not join and was absconding. However, using political influence he managed his transfer through the then agriculture minister and got attached to Director Horticulture Jammu. This was only to further his business.
Taking serious note of his conduct, the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has ordered his termination from services. But to start with the Agriculture Department placed him under suspension. An inquiry has also been initiated into the conduct of the officer and a charge
sheet is being framed against him before he is
dismissed from service. A senior officer informed that Azad had given categorical instructions to terminate the officer.
The sources, however, pointed out that scores of officers in the government are openly running private business and also managing to get choicest postings of course with the patronage of their political mentors.
It may be mentioned that future of more than 700 school students continue to hang in balance after Jatinder Singh, a class IX student of Harminder Public School allegedly committed suicide after he was thrashed by his school Principal Kirtan Singh for not depositing their monthly fees on time.
Public outcry against the school Principal had earlier forced state government to conduct an inquiry and seal the school premises till further orders. Kirtan Singh, arrested by the police is facing charges of abetment to suicide. Chief Education officer HK Dubey is yet to submit his inquiry report. |
