Azad praises secular character of Ladakhis

Praising people of Ladakh for upholding values of communal harmony, amity and mutual brotherhood Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that peace and stability in the region has facilitated development activities for faster socio-economic upliftment of people.
Interacting with a deputation of Zanaskar Action Committee which among others included MLA Zanaskar Mr. Gh. Raza and Executive Councilor Mr. Sonam Namgyal here last evening Mr. Azad said measures have already been initiated for integrated development of Zanaskar with special focus to tap its chaste tourism potential. Zanaskar Development Authority set up by the government would prove highly beneficial in the area adding that the authority is being provided funds and necessary paraphernalia.
Mr. Azad said efforts are afoot to develop Srinagar-Sonamarg-Drass-Kargil-Zanaskar tourism circuit and for the purpose a sustained awareness campaign would be launched both within and outside country to woo tourists to visit these places along with other tourist destinations of the state. The promotion of tourism in Zanaskar, he said would generate employment avenues for local youth.
Responding to the demands of deputationists regarding creation of two more representatives for Zanaskar in Kargil Development Hill Council, posting of doctors, teachers, construction of min hydel power projects, airport and upgradation of Kargil-Zanaskar road Mr. Azad assured them of sympathetic consideration and appropriate action.
Chief Minister said that the process of recruiting doctors is in progress and a good number of doctors would be posted in Zanaskar as soon as these become available. He said likewise the power scenario in the state will improve in a couple of years and accordingly Zanaskar would get its due share. Regarding construction of Airport, Chief Minister said that he would talk to the concerned agency in this regard. He said District Development Commissioner would be directed to engage teachers on contractual basis for teaching Bodi and Arabic languages in Zanaskar schools.
The Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for Power Mr. Nawang Rigzin Zora and Minister for Social Welfare Haji Nisar Ali were also present on the occasion.
