| Unabated supply of impure ice continues in market | | |

JAMMU, July 14 : Health department of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) seems to be in deep slumber as far as health of the Jammuties is concerned as ice being provided to the people is allegedly made from the impure water from the water sources other than those of PHE department. There are number of ice factories within the premises of the JMC supplying hundreds of quintals of the ice for various purposes in the city and its outskirts.
Concerned people of the winter capital alleged that Health wing of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has completely failed on the grounds. The department is not checking the health of Jammu city and its adjoining areas in this rainy season, as most of the ice being manufactured by the Ice factories use polluted water for manufacturing that is being supplied in Jammu province. This impure ice is used in almost all the liquid products such as fruit juices, sugar cane juice, jal-jeera, and other cold drinks. Poor people also use this ice for drinking purposes for their day to day use. Meanwhile, people have demanded strict action against the erring factory owners to save the health of the Jammuties. Dr Sanjeev Digra, a reputed child specialist of the winter capital, stated that impure ice was a source of number of diseases. He further said that in rainy season many people generally suffer from various ailments including digestive system, typhoid.
Food Inspector, JMC, Sunil Gupta said that during inspections held last week, the Health wing of JMC issued a challan to an ice factory at Akhnoor road. He assured of further strict action of other such factories as well. |
